ITBS Testing

We will be taking ITBS tests in 3rd and 4th Grade from February 1st thru the 11th. We use this as one form of assessment and hope all of our students do their best. Please take some of the following suggestions into consideration during the testing dates.

1) Make sure that your child has plenty of rest during and before the testing period.

2) Encourage your child to get 45 to get 60 minutes of exercise per day during the testing period.

3) Please be sure to get your child a healthy breakfast.

4) Fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, & grapes) will be provided at school prior or during the testing period. (Fruits high in fructose are proven to stimulate the brain).

5) Limit the amount of television and video games your child is viewing or taking part in during the testing period. Research has shown that students not watching television up to three days prior to and during the testing period are better able to focus on testing.

On Friday May 7th in addition to the "Got the "Distance" activity I was also privy to an awesome play put on by the 4th grade students in Mrs. Fliss class. Here is the evidence of the great historical play the kids took part in performing.

Last Friday the staff, students, and some brave parents took part in "Go the Distance Day". This was an initiative by the state of Iowa to get every k-12 student out exercising for 30 minutes straight all on the same day. We chose to walk the trails. WOW, what a great event!! I really enjoyed the Minds in Motion program. The projects were immaculate and extremely creative yet very informative. Thank you to PIE for the hard work and especially Danielle Peterson for her guidance and time spent. Congrats 3rd and 4th Grade students on a job well spent!! On March 15th we have our professional development day for the staff. We have sent out an email to parents asking for participation. Our goal is to get as much participation as humanly possible. I have received some interest from many of you about the day. Many parents have wondered about being able to set aside a whole day, and this is very understandable. We would love to have you participation as much as possible. Therefore, if you can commit an hour or a half of a day, that is perfectly fine.
Please contact the elementary office or the superintendents office if you have interest in being a part of this day. Our staff will be doing some very important work, and we are very much looking forward to the process with our Mac Computers.

Cannot believe it has been this long since I have added to my blog. So much has happened since before the PPEL vote. Unfortunately, we have missed too many days of school in the process. We are busy planning everything that will have to happen with technology. The kids continue to work so hard, and do so very well.

PPEL School Board Discussion & Vote

The PPEL Board Meeting on technology took place this morning. The board voted unanimously to move forward on a 1 0n 1 laptop computer initiative for grades 5-12. We will also have laptop carts available for students in grades kdg-4th grade. This initiative is a total turnkey solution through Apple. This includes blanket wireless from the south side of the elementary playground to the north side of the High School and the Football Field area. Also included are all the software, hardware, licensing, professional development, security, firewall, anti-virus, servers, etc.. etc.. Absolutely everything we need for the 1054 laptops we will have in our students and teachers hands. WE AT THE ELEMENTARY ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES THIS MAY HAVE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.
